My name is Ilir Isufi. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Philosophy at the University of Cincinnati.
As a philosopher of mind, I work on the relationship between language and thought. Instead of presupposing the existence of pre-given categories of thought, my guiding assumption is that these categories are shaped by varying social structures that influence how we think about and engage with the world. In my doctoral work, this has led me to critically examine contemporary accounts of linguistic relativity, the hypothesis that the natural languages we speak influence the way we think.
In my work on the philosophy of psychiatry, the above guiding assumption has led me to examine how diagnostic labels alter our self-conception or sense of self.
In my teaching, it leads me to inspire students to develop and share their own points of view.
